Choose the Camping Destination Wisely

The first of many things that needs to be thought of when planning your camping trip is fixing the camping destination. A good way to begin would be by choosing a spot that hasn’t been visited by you in the past. While you definitely feel a great sense of familiarity when going to a place you know well, a spot like that also tends to miss the element of that much required surprise and adventure. The part that should make up for your camping trip as being fun is that very element. What also matters greatly is details such as proximity to bathrooms, etc., especially if you are with little ones and will be in frequent need of using them due to the kids.

Maintain Hygiene

Cleanliness is the first and foremost consideration when you go out camping. Your clothes and body should be clean. Keep the basic things related to hygiene, such as hand sanitizers, sponge, cotton balls, etc at hand. Never use fragrant lotions, perfumes and scents as they can attract bugs. When you feel tired, you may go to the streams nearby to soak your feet.

Site Placement

There are thousands of campgrounds in the United States, from privately owned sites to state or national parks and forests. Most of these locations will have guidelines and existing sites for you to set up your camp. Make sure you follow the rules laid out by these organizations and stay in their designated camping areas.

If you plan to head out into the woods and do some camping away from pre-established campgrounds, you should first make sure you are allowed to be where you are going. Don’t try to set up on private property without permission. You should also be careful of the environment around you. Camping is an opportunity to get back into nature and unplug from our increasingly busy lives. Destroying a natural setting is not the way to get out and experience it. Don’t try to break down branches or remove plants from a crowded area to set up your space. Instead look around for an already open location where you can set up easily.

When placing your tent you should be aware of the location. If you are on any kind of sloped ground, you want to be aware of the potential for flooding. Set up a tent on an incline by pointing the opening downhill. If water starts to flow down the hill it won’t be pouring directly into your tent this way. You also want to avoid setting up on an area of flat ground if the landscape around you slopes down towards that space, as that will quickly flood if heavy rains start to move through. Examine the ground where you are considering setting up your tent. If the dirt is clearly cut away from former water flows, you know that this area is likely to be an issue if rains come.

Carry a Survival Kit

Being prepared for all contingencies is the key to a successful camping trip. Equipments like survival knives, water purification tablets, waterproof matches, and flashlights are indispensable items to carry.

Beware of Getting Lost

This is something that an expert camping freak will always advise you. Usually, the campers get mislead from their path. This mishap can be avoided if you carry along a few basic tools on the trip. GPS, map and a compass can save you from getting lost. Read the map properly before going on the camping tour.

Avoid Bugs

When you are going to set the tent or similar type of shelter, beware of bugs and wasp nests. Long pants and shirts are ideal clothes to wear. Carrying an insect repellent is advisable. To save food from bugs and insects, keep all the edible material high above the ground.

A Sleeping Bag is a Must

The sleeping bag you are taking with you should be suitable for the conditions that exist at the camping destination. Placing a long cushion or a pad with your sleeping bag can enhance the sleeping experience. You may also keep heavy duty plastic bag to cushion your head instead of bringing a pillow.
